Christmas comes to Corfu too

Another Day. Another Bay.

Discover how Santa delivers presents to the children spending christmas on yachts this year......

Anyone lucky enough to be spending Christmas at Gouvia Marina, can be assured the festivities will remain high throughout the coming weeks.

The changing season brings about change everywhere. The work floods in throughout the tourist season and no one stops. (there's always time for a quick frappe and a catch up though!) By the time the season is over, everyone just wants to chill and wind down. The tourists vanish but there are many boat workers who remain, and they still need entertaining.

While many places close up for winter, a few remain. They become the hub of the community for the yacht scene. I have had my fair share of crazy winter nights, but this isn't the place to discuss them. You have to experience it for yourself!

The Beer Bucket Xmas Tree

A local bar has created something really interesting  for their Christmas customers this year.

The number of bottles it took to make this tree reflects on the level of fun we have here in the winter.

While everyone is getting ready, local shops and bars are festively decorated, encouraging people to get in to the spirit. Charity sales are taking place all over the island. Offering christmas gifts and raising funds for wonderful causes.

We are ready for a party....

....... And since we all worked so hard all summer, we deserve it!

Here are a few things going on this week;

  • Charity Event for Corfu Animal Rescue
8th December. 12-6. Mimosa Hotel, Sidari

  • Karaoke Night
8th December. From 9pm. Melodies Cocktail Bar, Gouvia.

  • Table Top Sale/Charity Sale
9th December. From 10am. La Veranda, Dassia.

  • Who's Jammin. Music Session.
11th December. 10pm. Talk O the Toon. Sidarion.

I may have painted a rather relaxed picture of our lives here in the winter, but there's still work to be done. Boats are being maintained and serviced. Businesses are developing close by. Preparations for next year are underway.

A new boat crane, used to haul boats out of the water, has just been added to the fleet. Despite a few teething problems concerning measurements, (apparently it doesn't fit) I'm sure this will be rectified shortly.

What a magnificent machine. These guys make this look easy!

I will keep you updated on all the Christmas happenings we face in the coming weeks, along with all the latest news from the keyside. The weather has resembled Scotland recently. It's far too tempting to cosy in and leave the jobs till Avrio. Let's see what tomorrow shall bring.

So, How does Santa deliver those eagerly awaited gifts to the people of the marina?
Unfortunately, it remains a mystery. We have tried to catch him out on anchor watch but to no success. He is crafty.
I guess you will have to come and see if you can catch him out for yourselves.
